1966 Jeep Gladiator
This 1966 Jeep Gladiator custom build is currently undergoing a complete transformation at Griffin Automotive Design. The project will combine the unmistakable character of the early Gladiator with a modern chassis, updated drivetrain, custom interior, and extensive metal and bodywork.
LAP 6.6L Power
Power will come from an LAP 6.6L engine, giving the Gladiator a major upgrade over its original powertrain. The engine will be paired with a 4050 5-speed transmission for a combination of modern performance and an engaging driving experience.
Roadster Shop Chassis
The Gladiator will ride on a Roadster Shop chassis, creating a completely new foundation for the build. The upgraded chassis will bring modern suspension, handling, and road manners to the classic Jeep platform.
Extensive Metalwork and Fabrication
Before the body reaches the paint stage, the Gladiator is receiving extensive metal repair and fabrication. The team is addressing damaged and deteriorated metal throughout the truck. New floor pans are also being fabricated, along with repairs to additional body panels as the restoration progresses.
This work will provide a solid foundation for the body while preserving the distinctive shape and character of the original Gladiator.
Complete Paint and Body
Once the metalwork is complete, the truck will move through a full paint and body restoration at Griffin Automotive Design. The final color is still being kept a mystery, but the exterior will receive the same attention to detail as the rest of the build.
Full Custom Interior
Inside, the Gladiator will receive a complete custom interior designed specifically for the finished truck. The interior will complement the exterior and modernized drivetrain while maintaining the character that makes the early Gladiator unique.
This 1966 Jeep Gladiator is still in the early stages of its transformation. With major fabrication, bodywork, paint, interior work, and final assembly still ahead, there is much more to come as this full custom build takes shape.
